It Is Well...

Well, I guess it's only fair that I write another post, after leaving the blogging scene for sooooooo long... Sorry guys but i've been terribly busy with lots and lots of work... Anyway, let me share something with all of you...

There's a song, one written a long time ago, one that has kept me going on, one that has always helped me when I feel like the whole world is going against me...

And so, here goes!!!

It Is Well with My Soul

Horatio G. Spafford

1. When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.
Refrain: It is well with my soul, it is well, it is well with my soul.
2. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control, that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and hath shed his own blood for my soul. (Refrain)
3. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! (Refrain)
4. And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, even so, it is well with my soul. (Refrain)
This song here, like any other good song, has a real interesting history, one worth sharing with all of you...
Horatio Gates Spafford (October 20, 1828 - October 16, 1888), was  a successful lawyer and a man who was involved and maintained a keen interest in christian activities, yet some thing happened to him that I, personally, am not sure if i'd ever be able to withstand...
1. In 1870, his only son (Horatio Jr.) died of hayfever at the age of 4
2. In 1871, the Great Chicago Fire (he was a prominent lawyer there) swept through the city and destroyed almost everything he owned. (He also invested heavily in the city's real estate)
3. In 1873, Horatio decides his family should go for a holiday in Europe, and decides to send them on their way to England (he was delayed by business), while crossing the Atlantic, their ship Ville Du Havre gets involved in an accident, all four of Horatio's daughters die.
4. Anna Spafford (Horatio's wife) sends a telegram from England beginning with two words "saved alone..." Spafford rushed to England, and when crossing the place where his children died, the captain called Horatio to his cabin and told him that they were doing so. It was during this time when Horatio wrote the words to the song...
Amazing how strong some people can be, even in the worst of conditions... Anyway, one thing I do know, if anything happens, I  should still be able to say "It is well with my soul..."
Father, help me to be strong, to be able to always realize that my life is in Your hands, and that in all things Father, You work for the good of those who love You and are called according to Your purpose... Help me to be strong and help all my friends, family and people I know to depend and trust in You in all circumstances... Your will be done in my life, Father, for all this I pray in Jesus' name...
Amen...
